ABOUT
For the third event in this new series of chamber music concerts in Southwark Cathedral, join London Concertante for two magnificent 19th century works from France and Germany. Fauré’s Piano Quartet was written during the break-off of his engagement to Marianne Viardot, and the work portrays both the heartbreak and fond memories of happier times in the relationship. Schubert’s beguiling and bewitching quintet was commissioned by a friend after he heard Schubert’s song Die Forelle (The Trout). He was asked to write a piece featuring the song’s theme, and Schubert duly obliged, adding an extra movement for good measure!
